Depending who you ask, you will get some incredibly varied opinions of Nolan Ryan’s career value. To many, he is one of the best pitchers ever. To others, he’s written off as a glorified .500 pitcher. The truth, of course, lies somewhere in the middle. With a Hall Rating of 144, Ryan ranks among the top 30 pitchers of all time. Not bad—but not the best. He certainly was exciting, but his strikeout, no-hitter, and hit-per-nine records are offset by walk and wild pitch records. Nothing Ryan did was boring and there really has never been another pitcher quite like him.
